SONYA HENSLEY
Sonya Hensley is definitely one of the most versatile performers out there today. She has toured extensively with such renowned artists as Peter Duchin, Jimmy Buffett, Gladys Knight, Harry Belafonte, and Lena Horne. Ms. Hensley starred in a fourteen-country European tour of Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Ladies" where she received nothing but rave reviews. She recently returned from the Opera House in Oslo, Norway.
Ms. Hensley consistently packs them in to see her cabaret/nightclub act which she performs internationally - from Amsterdam to Munich, Paris to Puerto Rico, Istanbul to Madrid, and right here in the USA, from Los Angeles to New York where she has made quite a name for herself as an act not to be missed! Her extensive range allows her to sing jazz, rhythm and blues, pop, gospel, and international sounds with ease.
Film credits include roles in Glitter with Mariah Carey, Park Day with Hill Harper as Ifreana Davis, What's Love Got To Do With It: The Tina Turner Story, and The Hurricane with Denzel Washington. She stars in the Berlin Film Festival hit Isle of Lesbos as the singing-dancing high priestess, Emphysema Jones. She was a featured dancer in The Cotton Club, A Chorus Line, and on TV in "It's Showtime At The Apollo".
Theater credits, which include many national and international tours, have enabled her to play roles in such shows as Dreamgirls, Sweet Charity, George M starring Joel Grey, Lena Horne, The Lady and Her Music, and 5-6-7-8-Dance, starring Sandy Duncan at the world famous Radio City Music Hall.
Sonya's current CD project include such musicians as Smokey Robinson sideman Larry Ball, world-renowned percussionist Ndugu Chancler, and Grammy-nominated Phil Wright.
